That's a great list! Although...Xanthophilic? Really? This is a common publicity buzzword??

How ever did we both miss "emerging"?

I was going to join the party with a few examples, but realized we all communicate in buzzwords and cliches. It seems unfair to pile on publicists, especially since they are trying to describe/hype music through written language, a tricky task, as we all know who attempt it.

Having said that, I'll jump in with my own admonition. I'd like to ban the word "canny" from all music reviews. It's been showing up incessantly everywhere for the last couple of years, from Kosman to whatshisname in the NY Times, like an unconscious tic. It needs to be put in the same compost bin as "strapping."

Maybe for Scriabin or Messiaen, who both thought of music through colors. :-)

My favorite is the various types of masterpieces: towering, immortal, sublime, historic etc.

Here's something that some smart people apparently don't know: "foremost" is a singular term. If you say that someone is "the foremost X", then nobody else can be that at the same time. If you want to allow for peers on an equal level, you have to say "among the foremost."

I see why you would suggest neo-classical, but also is a style....so....
